The 2024Q1 global tablet report is released, and Huawei's Xiaomi sales have risen sharply year-on-year, with Apple ranking first

Market research agency IDC recently released the first quarter of 2024 global tablet tracking report, the report shows that the first quarter of 2024 global tablet shipments of 30.8 million units, up 0.5 percentage points from the same period in 2023, the agency believes that the increase in shipments is a signal of market recovery, and the real growth will appear in the next round of product updates. However, IDC senior analyst Anuroopa Nataraj also pointed out that although the demand for tablets in the education industry and the retail economy has increased, it cannot offset the recession caused by the impact of PCs and smartphones, and the outlook for the tablet market is still uncertain, and if tablets can have the same potential for AI capabilities as other devices, there may be positive upside.

In terms of brands, Apple's sales fell by 8.5 percentage points year-on-year, but it still ranked first in terms of shipments in the first quarter, reaching 9.9 million units, and it is expected that the company will focus on handling the inventory of older models before launching new models. Samsung came in second with 6.7 million units shipped, and like Apple, shipments fell 5.8 percentage points year-on-year, mainly due to promotions from competitors in Europe and Asia-Pacific, as well as a lack of new products. However, Samsung has already started to integrate artificial intelligence on its latest products to improve the user experience, and it is expected to gain upside in the replacement cycle.

Huawei's shipments remained in third place, up 43.6 percentage points year-on-year, with shipments reaching 2.9 million units, while its market share rose 2.8 percentage points year-on-year to 6.6%. Lenovo and Xiaomi ranked 4th and 5th respectively, with the former increasing its detachable tablet product line since the pandemic, driving the growth of its own tablet shipments, with shipments of 2.1 million units in the quarter, a year-on-year increase of 13.2 percentage points, but traditional tablets still accounted for 80% of total shipments; The latter shipped 1.8 million units, with the largest year-on-year increase of 92.6 percentage points among the top 5 units, and all regions except China achieved triple-digit shipment growth.
